So Tuesday, the 20th was my 26th birthday...oh boy!!...we are approaching 30 here people...closer to that than 20! Yikes! Oh well, with old age comes wisdom, so at least I have that to look forward to:)
I just wanted to share with you about a blessing that I received on my birthday---one that I wasn't expecting, but one that came nonetheless... (I decided to write this after reading my dear friend Jenny's blog about little miracles--thanks Jen for sharing:) Anyway, so for the past three days or so my poor little Jonas has been having the worst diaper rash---so sore and red--screaming during the diaper changes, and, on Tuesday morning, when I went in to get him out of his crib, I was not greeted by my typically smiling and jumping little boy, no...he was sitting quietly on the mattress, hands in his lap, and when I went to pick him up he said, "No mommy" in his little sad voice... (breaks a momma's heart). He didn't even want to stand up...and just crumpled to a sitting position after getting him out of bed. I'm not sure why it was so bad---I've never seen it so red...maybe all this cool dry air combined with some serious teething... Anyway, I had quite a busy day on Tuesday- with MOMS group in the morning and teaching all afternoon--and all Jonas wanted was to be held...I decided to cancel childcare for MOMS and just see if he would sit with me during the worship and the speaker (which, on a normal day would be unthinkable with all his energy!)...I wasn't sure what we were going to do for the afternoon, since he usually goes to daycare, but I thought we'd take it a little at a time.
He surprised me:) It was such a sweet time--he sat on my lap contentedly for over and hour without so much as a peep-(now this was partially due to the fact that he didn't want to play or walk because of the rash), but still, I couldn't help but think....oh my little baby, what a wonderful gift to give to your mommy on her birthday! On normal healthy days, he is so active that often all the holding time I get is picking him up to put him in his crib, the bathtub, or while reading books...besides that, only a quick squeeze and kiss when I steal them:) It was such a blessing to just sing and hear our missionary guest speaker share with my little boy on my lap. He rested with his face against my shoulder and his little feet stretched out in front of him while patting my arm with his hand...he just seemed to soak in what was going on around him...and it was truly heaven for me:) All the other moms couldn't believe how still and contended he was, and so, for one precious hour, I soaked it all up...now we're back to stealing kisses and hugs, but either, way, he is and always will be my little sweetheart---oh these days pass so quickly!
