Okay- so here we are... Obama made it...he is our president. My feelings are mixed to say it simply. I truly did not know who to vote for...saddened that the abortion issue has made me a one-issue voter, and yet, unable to come to grips with the fact that I can't support someone who morally does not understand and value life like I do...if any of you have figured this one out, let me know...But to be honest, I have great hopes for Obama...he has some incredible ideas. I like that he is young and that he understands more comprehensively the needs and concerns of the urban poor and the social issues we face as a nation. O how we need this!! His lack of experience actually is a positive thing in the sense that he hasn't had time to become jaded...he is passionate and ready to work hard! I am excited because he brings new perspectives to the table and, as a side note, am truly grateful that this election symbolizes how far we have come as a nation since 1860, or 1960 for that matter. I rejoice that God has worked in the hearts and lives of Americans, young and old alike, bringing us from the dark days of the Harper's Ferry raid to a day where we can stand as equals, side-by-side, knowing and believing that we are indeed created equal, embracing equal rights. Actually, as I was listening to Obama's acceptance speech, I noted that it sounded very Lincoln-esque (very poetic, positive, unifying and full of references to history and a call for the future) (how appropriate, I thought:) As many of you know, I love reading Lincoln's speeches...his rhetoric and ability to communicate truth and emotion are, as of yet, unsurpassed in history ( and I highly doubt it will ever be...) (if you don't understand what I mean, read his 2nd Inaugural Address (especially the last half) and try not to be moved...actually read it anyway just because you are an American!!!:)http://www.bartleby.com/124/pres32.html
Obama does indeed have the ability to inspire and unite people, and hopefully he will use these abilities in the coming years to affect the positive changes that his campaign has advertised. All that aside, I look forward to the days ahead, knowing that my hope is not, nor will it ever be in any man, president or otherwise. Christ is my light and my salvation, and He will use Obama for His purposes, and ultimately for His glory. May His non-partisan truths continue to be revealed to our nation's leaders as we go forward.
