Breakfast with Santa (Updated Version)

Merry Christmas Everyone!  I uploaded these photos in a bit of a rush as we were getting ready to leave right after church for the O. C. (Orange City, IA) and didn't have time to write anything.  The White Bear YMCA (our home Y) was having an event with free pancakes last Sunday.  Upon our arrival, Jonas remarked, "Mom, this is called 'Breakfast with Santa' so Santa should be eating with me!"  We had to explain that Santa was in the room, but would not, in fact, be eating with us.  We have not been telling the kids much about Santa, not really opposed to having the kids believe in Him, but also not making the effort to tell them about him either.  However, right after we ate, Jonas made his way over towards where Santa and Mrs. Claus were greeting children and families, and he came back and told us, "It is really him! Santa is really here!"  And he was folks, this guy was as genuine as they come---real beard, real belly, and really beautiful suit and big black boots...even Mrs. Claus was one of the most friendly people I have ever met.  This Claus couple were pros indeed!

Gusto was a little less than thrilled at meeting Santa, however the other two became believers on the spot; Freya sat and chatted with Mrs. Claus for awhile, and Jonas rattled off all the toys he could think of.  Freya has, up until this point, been very wary of Santa, and even on bottled Coke containers, points to his picture and says, "No...that man..." with uneasiness in her voice.  Then she would always want to be held and turn her head from wherever she saw a picture of him.  She was not a fan.  But these two changed her mind.  Come to find out, they also have young grandchildren, so I think they have had lots of practice with nervous little ones:)

White Bear YMCA---hence the "white bear" bodies:)

Yummy. This lady LOVES her candy canes! (which is fun for us as her older brother detests all things mint.)  She, on the other hand, is not so picky, and if you label anything as "candy" she is all for it!
Even reindeer came to this event from a real reindeer farm.  Jonas was so happy to finally touch a real reindeer...although these two seemed a bit small to pull a sleigh:)
We love you all very much and hope that you have a splendid day celebrating the coming of our Savior.  Joy to the World! The Lord is Come!  What a hope we have!

Jonas is growing into such a boy and you can really see how he is understanding things. I am glad Freya is not fearful of "that man " now and August will catch on too before you know it. Merry Christmas and have fun in O. C.!
