The Power of the Cross
Oh, to see the dawn Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men, Torn and beaten,
then Nailed to a cross of wood.
CHORUS: This, the pow'r of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath—
We stand forgiven at the cross.
Oh, to see the pain Written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev'ry bitter thought, Ev'ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.
Now the daylight flees;
Now the ground beneath Quakes as its
Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
"Finished!" the vict'ry cry.
Oh, to see my name Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death;
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.
We sang this song at church today, and I just love the words...I love songs that tell stories...it seems like so many hymns, especially, go verse by verse and tell a story...and oh what a story we celebrate today! My family discussed today over the dinner about who we would have wanted to have been in the story of Jesus' death and resurrection if we could have been there...Jason said the thief on the cross---and I agree...what more powerful words could a person ever hear right before death?..."Today you will be with me in paradise." What assurance! My mom said one of the disciples on the road to Emmaus...also incredible...to have Jesus explain to you all of biblical history and the significance of his birth, life, death and resurrection while on a walk...what an amazing experience! I also think it would have been incredible to have been the priest (if there was one) standing near the the holy of hollies....when the curtain was torn in two...forever the division between man and God removed... because of Jesus.
We had a wonderful day...here are some pictures...I love Easter. It is my absolute favorite holiday. He is risen. Praise God. I know that my redeemer lives.
