Getting Our Tree and Ready to Pop!

We have our Christmas Tree all set-up and decorated already:) Yay! We headed out and ventured an hour north to the tree farm yesterday...the perfect crisp, sunny, blue-sky MN morning for tree finding:) We got all bundled up and loaded up the hay wagon and then tromped around in the woods for awhile searching for that perfect tree. Needless to say, that is where the ready to pop thing comes in---as that is the current description of my status, and tromping around with a coat on that doesn't quite zip in 15 degree weather on icy, crunchy, bumpy snow while carrying a saw and camera was quite the humorous combination for me---I almost fell about 20 times, but never did, so that was nice:) We eventually found the perfect beauty and chopped her down---(Jonas was a bit saddened at this part as he thought we should "Let it grow more":)....and I can totally relate---as a kid, we always had real trees too (contextual side note: My Dad always said, "A real tree for a real Christmas" implying that all the people we knew with artificial trees were hopelessly decorating away with an impending "fake" Christmas on the horizon, so he scared that option right out of me at a young age...so, we'll always have a real tree in this house:) I though, like Jonas, distinctly remember feeling a little distraught about cutting the tree down and taking it away from its other tree friends and stopping it from growing taller (my little boy is already showing compassion for nature like his momma:)---It is good to remember how you thought as a young child in order to properly and kindly respond to your own child's thoughts and concerns. That's why we should never really "grow up":) When we got it home, we discovered that this is the tallest tree we've ever had, and here we thought we were attempting to get one on the smaller side! Trees always look smaller in the great outdoors! The rest of our day included decorating and eating, decorating and eating some more, and all around a cozy fire. I am so thankful for days like this...with no agenda, and we just had so much fun! Jonas was quite the helper in hanging the ornaments too:) Yay Christmas----we're ready! And Baby Girl, that goes for you too!

That sounds like a perfect day! Erik has taught me your dad's saying, which is why, we too, will be getting a real tree again this year for our tiny apt. :)

Please be careful, Claire! Hearing about you hiking through the snow makes me nervous...altho I know you are fine. Im so excited for baby girl's arrival! Erik and I stayed awake in bed a few nights ago discussing names we think you might name her for like an hour. so fun!

we love you and miss you! Christmas will be here soon!

Thanks for the concern, Becca, and I am certainly a clumsy one these days, however, I didn't want to miss out on all the fun! Enjoy your "real" Christmas too:) Real trees do smell wonderfully wonderful---an added bonus! We miss you guys:) Can't wait to have some news about Baby Girl's arrival:)
