Late night date with garlic and olive oil:)
So...I did it. I really did, and we all slept better because of it....what is it, you ask?? G.a.r.l.i.c. Yup. I have heard recently, from several sources, that when your child gets congested, that rubbing garlic on the bottoms of their feet helps to clear them up and breathe better. I was skeptical, and for no apparent reason...I have nothing against herbal remedies, I just happen to be a skeptical person...and a visual learner:) Well, last night, I had the chance to have my first-hand encounter with the wonders of garlic....Jonas has been fighting a cold for a little while now, and two nights ago, woke up with this terrible deep cough---but he only coughed a couple of times, and he kept waking up because he couldn't breathe very well....then last night he woke up again....4 times from 8pm to midnight, and we propped him on a pillow and turned on the humidifier, but nothing was helping, so at 12:30 am, I told Jason that I had an idea...and after finding out that we had no Vick's vapor rub, I decided to go for it... I minced up some fresh garlic cloves and added some olive oil, and after mixing this as well as I could together, I applied it to Jonas's feet...he giggled at first because it tickled, but after smelling it, he then looked at me with a puzzled expression and said, "Mommy, no."---I don't blame him:)...we then put socks on and a sleeper, because Jason was concerned, as was I, that he might pull the socks off and get garlic sauce in his eyes...we then put him back down and.....he slept until after 8 am!!! Not a peep for 8 hours! Praise the Lord!! We all needed it, and Jonas seemed so refreshed in the morning, albeit, smelling like his father's ancestors kitchen, but rested and ready for the day, nonetheless...it was wonderful!! I read about a lady who does this when she is congested, and wakes up with garlic breath in the morning--that garlic goodness really absorbs into the body! Anyway, a word to the wise....give it a shot, the worst thing that could happen is that you'd need a bath in the morning, or at least some tomato sauce with breakfast:) Happy Sunday!
