Friday morning and a squirrel's head

So, I'll explain the funny title:) My neighbors are touring Egypt....and they asked me to check on and feed their two cats while they are gone. I have done this before, and usually it also entails feeding a variety of creatures outside as well...including birds, raccoons, squirrels....they had me put out TWO loaves of bread for the raccoons and handfuls of peanuts for the squirrels....which I did, a little reluctantly....considering the woods behind our house is quite full of creatures....owls, deer, foxes, you name it...and I was never quite sure what would be waiting at the door for my donations, and the raccoons are SO loud and a little scary when they are fighting over loaves of bread. Anyway, all that aside....this time, they said that I did not have to feed the wildlife since many are in hibernation, and just to simply focus on the cats and their various needs:) However, today, when I went down for my daily visit, I brought Jonas with me...he loves cats and since he doesn't see much of Selina, I thought it would be fun... and both Tom and Jerry are really friendly. He was wearing his snow-suit and "boops" as he calls boots, which are his most recent choice in fashion whenever we go out....I was going to take him out to play in the snow after feeding the cats. Anyway, when I finally made my was down into their basement, I saw several squirrels at the sliding glass door as if they were just asking for peanuts, and Jonas and the cat were both very intrigued by them, so I thought it would be harmless to throw out a few peanuts to liven up the action for my audience. Anyway, unbeknownst to me, these squirrels will do anything for peanuts, including suicide missions, which I was not prepared for....as I opened the heavy glass door, one of them darted forward, trying to COME INSIDE.....I quickly slammed the door but not without catching the unfortunate squirrel's head in the scuffle....yes, I had trapped a squirrel by its head in the door....and it was making this terrible screaming noise which did more to scare Jonas than to entertain him....He kept saying "No....no no...." in his soft quiet voice as the squirrel continued screaming. I didn't know what to do...opening the door would mean that the squirrel could get inside, and that would be awful....with Jonas, two cats, and me trying to catch it, so I tried to push his head through with my foot while slowly opening the door....after a few minutes, I was successful, and the squirrel was released back outside....he was definitely shaken up by the whole ordeal and lumbered off looking from side to side....I hope I didn't cause too much brain damage...ugh. Well....a little adventure for the day:) So, again, for those of you who remember my story from our honeymoon about the raven who stole our bag of bagels, this is what happens with Claire decides to feed the wildlife.... Craziness follows.
